A Study in Scarlet is the first Sherlock Holmes novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, published in 1887, which introduces the iconic detective and his companion Dr. John Watson as they solve a murder case in London, establishing their partnership and Holmes’s deductive methods. The story is notable for its two-part structure, with the first part focusing on the crime and the second providing a backstory of revenge set in the American West, explaining the motive behind the murder.
